Adam Weitsman, CEO of Upstate Shredding – Weitsman Recycling presented a check in the amount of $10,000 to the Village of Spencer Police Department on Thursday, April 14, which will be used to help the department purchase safety and communication equipment.
The donation will be used to cover the cost of several items including two tasers, two body cams and a mobile radio, a heat alarm for the K-9 officer, as well as an alco-sensor and a radar unit. The purchases will dramatically improve the safety of the police department officers as well as enhance their abilities to communicate and serve the public effectively. Remaining funds will be used for equipment updates and other needs.
Three police officers and one canine unit currently make up the Village of Spencer Police Department, which provides law enforcement services to residents, visitors and businesses within the village and is also a vital link to neighboring communities.
Weitsman thanked the Village of Spencer Police Department for their work within the community and added, “This donation is in support of local law enforcement. We wanted to work with them and also want our neighbors to be safe.”
Officer Rick McCulskey commented, “These items will greatly benefit the community and help us with 21st century needs.” McCulskey explained that just the body cameras alone will help gather evidence in multiple ways and also aid the department in eliminating liability.
Spencer Police Chief Michael Monteiro added, “We are extremely grateful to Upstate Shredding and the Weitsman family for their generosity and commitment to the community.”
