SUEZ repairs in Owego to begin on Monday

SUEZ (formerly United Water) will make an urgent repair on Lake Street in Owego starting on Monday, April 18 at 7:30 a.m. The work requires a water main to be shut down in order to repair a hydrant and perform upgrades. The company has scheduled the work to take place over a period of two to three days in order to minimize inconvenience to homes and businesses in the area.

“We want to advise our customers in the Owego area that there will be short periods when they have no water or low water pressure,” said Jeff VanWagenen, manager. “In addition, they may experience periods of discolored water due to harmless sediment which is stirred up in the main. While the water is safe, customers may prefer to wait until the water runs clear before drinking or washing clothes or dishes.”

Company officials suggested that customers fill containers with water and put them in the refrigerator for use during the shutdown. They may also want to fill the bathtub with water for flushing or cleaning.

VanWagenen noted that SUEZ crews will work as quickly and as safely as possible to make the repairs.

Lake Street will be closed to traffic while the work is ongoing. Motorists are advised to use caution if driving in the area.

SUEZ apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks customers for their patience.
