Cuomo’s ban will hurt the country

Dear Editor,

A lot of states are boycotting in their own way against the LGBT community. States like Mississippi, North Carolina and Georgia have recently added Religious Freedom Laws.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has banned non-essential state-funded travel to Mississippi. We should not do this because states should have the right to protect their businesses. A business should be allowed to deny services to anyone who is against their beliefs.

It might be frustrating for that group of people but there are plenty of other businesses to go to in order to get that desired service. If this was the other way where a couple in the LGBT community owns a business and they do not want to serve straight couples, it would be socially acceptable. But since it is a Christian-owned business, people go up in arms.

Cuomo setting up this ban will only hurt our country more.
