Mildred Faulkner Truman grant improves historian’s office

Thanks to the generosity of the Mildred Faulkner Truman Fund, the Newark Valley Town Historian’s office will soon have a restroom. After working in their office for over a dozen years without access to a bathroom or running water, they are grateful to the Foundation for a grant of $8,000 to construct a restroom in their Whig Street office.

Guests who come to the office to use their extensive collection will be able to stay longer. Researchers and volunteers will be able to wash their hands, etc., without having to drive home to do so.  This restroom, designed in-kind by McElwain Engineering, will be handicapped-accessible and a comfort to all visitors.

Their office houses local history resources, as mandated by New York State. They are climate-controlled for optimal preservation of their large collection of scrapbooks, photos, postcards, newspapers, genealogies, and many more local records.

The public is welcome to use these resources on Wednesdays, from 2 to 4 p.m., or by appointment by calling 642-3361.
