OLL News BriefOwego Little League’s (OLL) VP-Baseball Steve Terry says the Owego Free Academy Baseball Clinic has received great reviews from Owego Little League players and parents. Having the Junior Varsity and Varsity players run the stations was a thrill for the players. Coach Phil Schofield and his staff have shown a tremendous amount of support for OLL and it is greatly appreciated.

Now VP-Baseball Steve Terry hopes to make the “Spring Training” Clinic an annual event for OLL. This year’s “Spring Training” will consist of two Saturday clinics from noon to 2 p.m. The clinic is open to all OLL players age eight to 12 at the Owego Apalachin Middle School.

Main focus for the clinic on Saturday, March 19, will be pitching and catching and will include infield and hitting fundamentals. This past Saturday’s clinic was pitching and catching fundamentals.

Here’s the updated OLL Calendar of Events for 2016 from Scheduler, Webmaster, and Player Agent Eric Hawkins.

There will be an OLL Officers meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Countryside Community Center.

“Spring Training” will take place on Saturday, March 19, from noon to 2 p.m. for OLL players age eight to 12 at the Owego Apalachin Middle School.

-Baseball Drafts for Majors and Minors will be Monday, March 28 at 7 p.m. Drafts for Modified Tee Ball and Tee Ball will be Tuesday, March 29 at 7 p.m. Drafts for Softball are pending.

Practice starts on Saturday, April 2 at Hyde Park. Parents should get calls from their coaches during the week.

There will be a Work Bee at Hyde Park on Saturday, April 16 and Saturday, April 23 from 9 a.m. until completed.

The Opening Day Parade will take place on Saturday, April 30 between 8 and 8:15 a.m. Parade Marshall John Loftus expects teams, players, coaches, and managers on Temple Street. Find your team banner between the Owego Police Station and First Presbyterian Church. Line up and be ready to go by 8:20 a.m. The parade marches at 8:30 a.m. The route will travel up North Avenue and down George Street to Hyde Park.

The 65th Opening Day Ceremonies will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 30 at Nick Raftis Memorial Field. There will be a welcome, invocation, a flag raising ceremony by the Elks, the Veterans Honor Guard, the players will sing the National Anthem and Take Me Out to the Ball Game. Introductions will take place, and there will be awards to recognize volunteerism and introduce officers and directors.

The ceremonial first pitch will open the 2016 season for Baseball, Tee Ball, Girls Softball, and recognize Teener League’s later start. Starting at 10:30 a.m., five games on five diamonds will be played every two hours.

Chairman Phil Wiles coordinates Picture Day for teams and individual players. Picture Day will take place on Saturday, May 7.

Raffle tickets are due on Saturday, May 7 to Raffle Chairman Dennis McCann.

Homecoming is Saturday, June 4, all day.

The end of the Regular Season is Wednesday, June 15.

The Girls Softball Tournament will take place Saturday, June 18 through Sunday, June 26. Softball VP Dave York coordinates the tournament.

The 10U Baseball Tournament is Monday, June 27 to Sunday, July 10. Tournament Director Eric Hawkins coordinates both tournaments.

The 12U Baseball Tournament is Monday, July 11 to Sunday, July 24.

All parents of children involved in baseball, tee ball, and softball are strongly encouraged to volunteer to coach, manage, sell concessions in Manager Kathie Rollison’s Concession Stand, do field maintenance work, operate the scoreboard, shadow a league officer, plate or base umpire, and research and write a chronology of the last 15 years of OLL.
