Set to take the stage at the Ransom Steele Tavern on Friday, Dec. 4 are two seasoned musicians, Randy McStine and Nick D’Virgilio. Joining them for the 8 p.m. show is Nashville musician, Dan Carr. Showcasing individual selections from their careers to date, the duo will also combine their extraordinary talents and perform material from their newly formed rock trio, The Fringe. The Fringe, which also includes Jonas Reingold, will debut in 2016.

Guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and Endicott, N.Y. native, Randy McStine, is best known for his work with Lo-Fi Resistance, The Pink Floyd Experience and Sound of Contact. Touring North America and Europe with Sound of Contact and crossing the country on The Pink Floyd Experience tour, McStine has also worked with members of Genesis, King Crimson, Dream Theater and others, both on stage and in the studio. A remarkable career to date, McStine actually picked up his first instrument at age five and began his career at age ten.

Multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter, Nick D’Virgilio, a prominent name in the progressive rock world, has a music resume, which encompasses more than two decades, including 20 years with the California-based band, Spock’s Beard.

A drum master known worldwide, D’Virgilio has been highly sought after on stage and in the studio and has worked with artists such as Tears for Fears, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Cirque Du Soliel, and others. D’Virgilio has also been a long-time member of the British-based band, Big Big Train.

McStine and D’Virgilio first joined talents in 2009 during production of McStine’s premier album, where D’Virgilio offered up support on drum tracks and mixing. Several projects later, they met up in 2013 along with bass player, Jonas Reingold, and performed shows as a trio at a drum festival in Poland. Sensing a music chemistry they wanted to build upon, the trio headed into a recording studio in 2014 and officially formed The Fringe.

Reingold, a bassist, vocalist, songwriter and producer from Malmo, Sweden, also carries an impressive resume, including work with groups such as The Flower Kings and The Tangent, among others within the progressive rock, pop, metal, jazz and classical music genres.

During a phone interview, McStine shared that the Dec. 4 show at Ransom Steele Tavern will feature songs from both D’Virgilio’s and his own solo careers, as well as a few cover choices, and a sneak peak of original music from The Fringe collaboration.

By phone, D’Virgilio shared, “We will also perform some obscure cover songs, some of which are a little left-of center.”

Excited about the debut of the new group, The Fringe, D’Virgilio said, “It’s really cool material,” and added that show-goers are sure to enjoy the sound, which McStine and D’Virgilio both hope will be a stepping-stone to future success.
