Drivers who travel Route 17C / Fifth Avenue in Owego, N.Y. may have noticed some construction work on the property adjacent to Greg’s Auto Sales. Owner Greg Kies is expanding his business located at 770 Rte. 17C. The adjacent lot was recently cleared to make room for the expansion, which included tearing down an old home.
Greg shared on the Monday before Thanksgiving, “The lot will be double the size,” and he added, “The work should be complete this week.” Working on the project is Owego native John Chandler, from J.O.C. Construction.
With 28 years of auto industry experience, Greg opened his business at the Rte. 17C / Fifth Avenue location two years ago. Greg is pleased that the expansion will give him more room to showcase his inventory as well as better serve customers who come from the Owego area and nearby communities.
Focused on providing quality, reliable vehicles for his customers, Greg chooses the cars that end up on the lot, hand-picking each one. A small-town auto salesman at heart, Greg explained that he is interested in getting to know his customers and understanding their needs, and also shared that his no-pressure style offers customers a positive overall experience.
When you drive by Greg’s Auto Sales or stop in to browse, take a look at the business sign outside. The circular sign, with a recognizable red star, is reminiscent of Texaco days when a more classic filling station was part of the landscape. Inside Greg’s office, customers will find another nostalgic element connected to the Owego area. Several bottles are on display from the Kies Bottling Works era, when Greg’s grandfather, Selover Kies, a prominent business owner, produced soda products from the late 1920’s through the late 1970’s.
Greg strives to ensure that his customers feel like they have been treated like family, and explained that he will go the extra mile to put customer relationships first.
In addition, having been born and raised in the Owego area, Greg is community-minded and takes pride in his efforts in giving back to the community.
Greg’s Auto Sales is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The business is closed on Sunday.
