After over 12 years at Tioga Trails Café, Tioga County’s Contradance is moving its every third Sunday of the month dance to the Countryside Community Center at 9 Sheldon Guile Blvd., Owego.

Doolin O’Dey is the featured band for the next Contra with some Square Dances from 4 to 7 p.m., on Nov. 15 at the Countryside Community Center. Doolin O’Dey is noted for its sounds of traditional and original Celtic tunes.

The band is composed of Susan Murphy, Jerry Drumheller and Nora Star. Susan is from a background in Cabaret and Celtic music. She played in assorted bands in New York City before moving to the Southern Tier. She brings her lilting Celtic whistles and keyboard stylings to the band.

Jerry played violin for 20 years in the Greece N.Y. symphony orchestra. He moved to the Southern Tier and discovered Celtic and Contradance music and has been hooked ever since.

Nora has been involved in music for 15 years working concerts and scheduling festivals. She plays guitar and mandolin. Her motto, “Have some foot stomping fun.”

All three have united their talents to provide some of the best Gaelic traditional tunes in the Southern Tier.

Bob Nicholson will be teaching and calling contra and square dances to the music of Doolin O’Dey. Contradancing, like square dancing, is done to a walking step and is easy to learn. Both beginners and experienced dancers happily share the same set. No partner is required.

General admission is $7, students and seniors (55 and older) is $5, and family maximum is $15. For more information call Stu at (607) 687-4034.
