Tioga County launches newly redesigned website

Tioga County announces the launch of a brand new, mobile-friendly website. This site, which took approximately eight months to develop, provides significant usability and functionality enhancements.

The key new features of the site include the following:

– A mobile-first design philosophy: All content on the site is easily accessible from both desktop computer and handheld\mobile web browsers, and will automatically reformat according to the device being used to produce an optimal experience.

– Completely redesigned navigation: A significant amount of time was invested to produce a navigation scheme that provided consistency, ease of use and enhanced the ability of users to quickly find what they seek.

– A comprehensive document library tool that provides the ability for documents to appear per department, but also allows a single view of all documents stored across the website with full search capabilities.

– A comprehensive event calendar system that allows each department to have their own event\meeting calendar, while also percolating all event information into a newly-designed master calendar list.

– A brand new e-mail notification system: If you would like the website to send an email when a new document of a particular type is uploaded (i.e. meeting minutes), you may now subscribe for e-mail alerts on one or many different types.

A significant enhancement of government transparency information, including a robust FOIL (Freedom of Information Law) Request Center, allowing the public faster access to key information has also been added. The County Legislature appropriated funding of at the end of 2014 for the creation of this new site, selecting Forward Business Solutions of Endwell, N.Y. in the amount of $18,750 after reviewing proposals from multiple vendors; additional preliminary site graphic design and layout work was conducted by Variety Studios of Syracuse for approximately $1,200.

The project was led by the County’s ITCS (Information Technology and Communication Services) department, who approached the redesign of the site as an opportunity to leverage new web technology to completely revise the navigation of the site, enhance the ability of the public and media to find government transparency information, and greatly enhance the ability of the County to effectively communicate with constituents. Marte Saurebrey, chair of the County Legislature, described the new site as “a substantial improvement to what we’ve had in the past. Our new website is easy to navigate on your cell phone or on your computer. Information is easier to find and more up to date.”
