Janet Thomas will work for the Town of Owego

Dear Editor,

I’m recommending voting for Janet Thomas for the Town of Owego Board on Nov. 3. I’ve known her well for the last few years as we’ve worked to enhance living in the Town of Owego.

As a 30-year resident of the Town, Janet has a commitment to improving her community. She has critical and innovative thinking skills from her experiences as an IBM Project manager, and as a schoolteacher. She has been attending the Owego Town Board meetings for several years, understands the issues, and will hit the ground running if she is elected.

If the following issues are of interest to you, then a vote for Janet will help you achieve your goals.

To overcome the crumbling infrastructure, she’ll work to bring together leadership to understand the broad range of the problem and to develop a realistic plan to deal with it, and ways to implement the plan.

When it comes to having healthy, healthful and well-paying jobs, Janet will work yet more actively to engage with State and Federal agencies that are there to help us.

Janet knows that it’s necessary to work hard to ensure a healthy environment that will attract more people to live in the Town.

In the face of the increasing problems associated with illegal drugs — especially meth and heroin — Janet will work diligently to promote efforts to educate about the dangers, as well as promote treatment programs to help people overcome their addictions. This helps to keep our community safe.

Smart energy programs are fast becoming more affordable and achievable. Janet will emphatically work to attain more State and Federal funds for our Town, and will continue to encourage residents and businesses to do likewise.

One of the most valuable resources in our Town are the libraries. Janet is fully committed to keeping them strong so they may continue to be places to gain helpful and essential information, as well as many educational and recreational resources – especially for those who do not have any other access to these services.

Sincerely,

Len Bjorkman

Owego, N.Y.
