For the third year in a row, the “undead” will invade Owego, N.Y. at Owego’s Parkview Hotel and Restaurant, and Draper Park, at 145 Front St. and next to the Court Street Bridge for the 3rd Annual Zombie Fest planned for Oct. 24, from 3 to 9 p.m. Registered on New York’s Haunted History Trail, the event will feature three bands, a professional dance studio performance, a haunted house, face painting, and the popular “Zombie Walk” around downtown Owego.

Each year the event has grown, and this year will be no different as GriEli, featuring Greg Grieve and 10-year old Eli Van Shephard (also known as the X-Kid), will open up the event for younger guests, while face painting and Zombies prepare to return from the dead. There will also be children’s activities taking place in Draper Park, directly across from the Parkview Hotel and along the scenic Susquehanna River. GriEli’s performance will begin at 2:30 p.m. on the large, outdoor stage.

At approximately 3:45, Wreckless Marci, who has grown to be a Southern Tier favorite, will invade the stage for a performance. Wreckless Marci wowed fans as the headliner for June’s Friday Night Strawberry Festival Block Party in Owego this year. In fact, according to organizers of the event, the community has been “howling” to bring this popular band back to Owego. The band has agreed to deliver.

Wreckless Marci will perform until 5 p.m., when, Kathy Hansen’s School of Dance performers will bring things to life even more with some of their award winning performances for guests arriving for the event. Sound for the bands, and for the dance performance will be provided by Mark Bennett of Shark Audio / Productions, as well as lighting for the stage.

Following the dance performance, Kathy Hansen’s School of Dance will lead the Zombie Walk around the Village of Owego, with all the Zombies returning to the venue for a continued performance by Wreckless Marci taking place until 7 p.m.

As the darkness falls, the Recycled Zombies, who have re-formed with all of their original members, will bring the undead out in full-force from 7 to 9 p.m. There will also be a haunted house, hosted by Empirical Paranormal set up at Draper Park, for the not so faint at heart.

This free event is organized by community volunteers, and is made possible through various sponsors to include the event sponsor, Music, Movies & Mayhem featuring Heather and Ron; and the major sponsors, Visions Federal Credit Union, Tioga Downs Casino, and Armstrong Music House – formerly of Towanda and Sayre, Pa.

For those who need some help with makeup, a “Get Your Zombie” on with volunteer artists will also be taking place at the event, so come on down to the haunted, Parkview Hotel and Restaurant on Front Street in Owego, N.Y.
