Rosebud’s Child Care, a private day care and preschool located at 23 Jennifer Lane in Apalachin, N.Y. is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Rose McCabe, owner and early education teacher at Rosebud’s, originally started offering day care in her home while she stayed home with her son. Today, McCabe’s home has been transformed into more than a business; Rosebud’s is a beloved day care and preschool that has been a mainstay in the community for two decades.

When you convert your two-car garage into a day care facility, it’s a sure sign that you truly enjoy your career. In addition to the garage remodel ten years ago, Rosebud’s has seen other growth and changes. Now caring for and teaching a second generation of children, Rosebud’s employs three assistants in addition to McCabe, with either early childhood education degrees or credentials.

“I love it,” McCabe said, “And I plan to keep doing it until I can’t.”

Regulations have changed dramatically over the years and can sometimes be overwhelming; however McCabe has focused on the end result, which is an investment in children’s futures.

As a licensed New York State group family day care, McCabe explained, “There are more rigorous standards than ever before, but if you do the right things, everything will fall into place.”

McCabe focuses on continuous improvement and has received numerous awards, including “daycare provider of the year,” “merit award winner,” “early childhood educator award,” “national child care teacher award,” and is a member of the blue ribbon society, which is awarded once certain quality criteria is met. More recently, Rosebud’s has received “eco-friendly” endorsement and is a “breastfeeding-friendly” day care home.

Rosebud’s offers a comprehensive early learning curriculum, which includes additional resources and visiting professional staff for children with special needs, and also helps build a foundation for all children in social, intellectual, emotional and physical aspects. School age children come before and after school, with plenty of activities available.

A 20-year reunion party, a Dr. Seuss themed event based on the book “Oh, the Places You’ll Go” is scheduled on Saturday, July 11 from 1 to 8 p.m. at Rosebud’s Child Care . Current and former children who have attended Rosebud’s, along with their family members, are invited to the event which will offer refreshments and a time to share memories, catch up with old friends, and have fun swimming and playing. Rosebud’s families are asked to RSVP to (607) 343-4430.
