Baku recently performed at Owego’s Strawberry Festival during the Block Party event. Baku will perform at the Tioga County Fair on Saturday, July 11 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.

This year’s Tioga County Fair will offer live performances for guests at the Tioga County Fair, planned for July 7-11 at the Tioga County Fairgrounds located on West Main Street in Owego, N.Y.

On Tuesday, from 7 to 9 p.m., Playing Possum will perform for guests at the Tioga County Fair. Playing Possum is a local, classic rock band comprised of members Pete Haahr (drums), Ryan Marchewka (bass), Keith Nichols (keyboards), and Keith Yates (guitar, vocals).

Playing Possum has been hanging from tree limbs, ineffectively crossing highways and hissing at threats for three years. Known for their eclectic mix of covers and originals, the Possum has 20 babies in their pocket, they’re eating trash, hunting and waiting for the moon up. Anything but playing dead.

The contact for the band is Keith Nichols, (607) 972-9449.

On Wednesday, from 7 to 10 p.m., Code Red will perform for guests at the Tioga County Fair. Code Red is a local, three-piece rock band of seasoned musicians, playing mostly classic rock from the 60’s to the 90’s, and selective music from today.

On Thursday, from 7 to 9 p.m., Phillip’s Head will perform for guests at the Tioga County Fair. What first started as a six-piece band called Nasty Habits has now split off into three pieces. The lead singer and guitarist is Paul Phillips, Dean Smith on Rhythm Guitar, and Tommy Woodburn on drums. The trio decided to add some bass and that’s where Ed McDowell comes in.

Phillips Head consists of friends and relatives joining together to play popular acoustic rock covers from the 60’s and 70’s. They perform anything from easy listening folk music to some faster dance tunes.

For bookings, their contact is Dean Smith at (607) 687-1803 or by email to dlsmith@warmcomfort.com.

Member Danny Morris noted he began playing music in kindergarten, and singing in the choir. In second grade, Morris played saxophone, and by eighth grade he bought his first electric guitar. Morris has been playing for over seven years now.

Dean Smith, a member of Phillips Head, is pictured performing at a Bike Night event in Owego. On Thursday, from 7 to 9 p.m., Phillips Head will perform for guests at the Tioga County Fair.

Justin Arnold started playing drums in fourth grade. His teacher, at that time, let him borrow the drums for the summer, and he has been playing ever since. Harry Nichols has been involved in music his whole life, often singing to himself, and auditioning for various musicals. By high school, Nichols transitioned from musicals to projects, and has been performing ever since.

Mike Seeley picked up the guitar in fourth grade, and never stopped playing.

The band originally formed with Danny Morris and his friend, Landon Thomas. They played for several years – going through countless drummers and holding auditions for numerous singers.

Justin Arnold was always the solid, backbone drummer that stuck with an extremely tight rhythmic sense and drive to move the band in diverse directions.

After an ad was posted on Craigslist in Ithaca, N.Y., Harry Nelson contacted Danny Morris, and things immediately blended.

“He had immense power and control over his voice,” said Morris.

But soon, Landon Thomas parted ways to pursue other avenues, and Mike Seeley, who was a good friend, rounded out the band.

Danny Morris, originally from New Jersey, has lived in Spencer, N.Y. for the last ten years. Mike Seeley and Justin Arnold both attended Owego Free Academy, with Seeley now residing in Apalachin, N.Y. Harry Nichols is from Delhi, N.Y., but now resides in Ithaca.

Baku describes them selves as a hard rock band that enjoys high-energy music that can get people up and moving.

“Whether its head banging or having your hands in the air we make sure that we have a tight rhythm section with heavy hitting riffs that are catchy and memorable,” said Morris. “We have a blended sound from an eclectic source of music ranging from eighties metal to modern day hard rock.”

The band is influenced by a wide range of artists to include Ozzy Osbourne, Breaking Benjamin, Alther Bridge, Disturbed, Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Chevelle, Foo Fighters, Metallica, Seether, Shinedown, Sevendust and more!

The band has played all over the region to include the Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie, where they opened up for Day of the New.
