John Joseph “Jack” McCloskey, 76, of Morganton, N.C. passed away Sunday June 7, 2015 at home with his wife following a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease.

McCloskey was born on March 14, 1939 in Blakely, Pa. to the late Clarence McCloskey and Helen Ruane McCloskey. He was a CPO in the United States Marines, serving six years in the reserves.

McCloskey graduated from the University of Scranton and the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in New York City. Following school he served his apprenticeship at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home in New York City, and Walter B. Cooke Funeral Home of New York City, and Harrison Funeral Home of Archbald, Pa.

McCloskey later owned Archer, Miller and McCloskey Funeral Home in Towanda, Pa. He was the former owner of Yogi Bear Jellystone Camp Resort in Marion, N.C., Dunkin Donuts of Towanda, Pa. and Owego, N.Y., McCloskey Transport, McCloskey Mini Storage Mall of Owego, N.Y. and several other small businesses.

McCloskey was a part-time deputy for the Tioga County Sheriff’s Department for many years. He was named Outstanding Young Men of America in 1971 for his achievement and service to his community.

McCloskey served on several Board of Directors and was a member of many volunteer services over the years. He was a recipient of the Thomas Quin award and the American Academy Funeral Service Award.

McCloskey was a man of many dreams and ambitions that started at a young age. He was a Cub Scout, an Eagle Scout, an Alter Boy, and was loved by many. He lived and fulfilled so many of his life’s dreams and he always knew how fortunate he was. One of his greatest loves was camping with his family.

He is survived by his wife Joyce McCloskey of Morganton, N.C.; sisters, Margaret (James) Burke of Endicott, N.Y., Ellen Harris of Lansdale, Pa.; his daughters, Maureen (Kent) Bosshard of Colorado, Jeanne (Paul) Malcolm of Charlotte, N.C., and Mary (Jeremy) Shook of Huntersville, N.C.; his sons, Timothy McCloskey of Owego, N.Y., and Daniel McCloskey of Charlotte, N.C.; a step-son, Christopher Miller of Shreveport, La., a step-daughter, Nicole (Gary) Hurley of Rome, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; an uncle, John Murphy of Ithaca, N.Y.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Mass to celebrate the life of Jack will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday June 27, 2015 at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Archbald, Pa. with Fr. Bill Pickard officiating.
