We need to rally to get our budget passed

Dear Editor,

There comes a time when we must all decide to “pull together” for a common cause. The time is now.

With the concessions of Superintendent Scot Taylor and a handful of teachers in giving back some of their increases, I believe it is up to us to now join the effort and rally to get this new proposed budget passed.

Yes, it may be difficult for some but, combined with the offer from a generous donor, it seems to be the best way to continue to provide the youth of this area with much needed programs.

Previously I voted against the proposed 30 percent increase to the Tioga Central School District budget and was adamant that the taxpayers could not afford such a hike. While the newly proposed increase of 17 percent is still considered high by some, it demonstrates a willingness on behalf of the district to work with the community.

Accolades to Mr. Taylor and the Board of Education, and thanks to our “donor” in finding a way to make this budget workable. They have earned my renewed confidence and my vote.
