Tioga Downs announced good news for concertgoers that were not able to enjoy the full Chubby Checker experience on Saturday, May 30 due to the inclement weather. The rock and roll artist who redefined the way people dance more than 50 years ago will entertain audiences once again on July 16, at 8 p.m. at Tioga Downs.

All tickets for this discounted show for the community will be priced at $5 with the full proceeds being donated to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. Tickets went on sale Friday morning at the Tioga Downs gift shop and through Ticketmaster.

In addition to all ticket sales going to the food bank, Jeff Gural will personally make an extra $10 donation to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier for every ticket issued for the concert in observance of hunger awareness week in the Southern Tier.

“I am saddened to hear of the inclement weather that caused the interruption of the Chubby Checker concert on Saturday, May 30 at Tioga Downs,” said Gural.

He continued, “Unfortunately I was not in attendance for the event, however I have been working with my Tioga staff to offer a discounted Chubby Checker concert to all who attended and especially thank those for continuous support of Tioga Downs Casino. We have been in communication with Chubby Checker’s management to set a date and are happy to announce Chubby Checker will be coming back again on July 16 at 8 p.m. Rather than a ticket price of $25 this time, we will be offering the tickets for $5 so that we can still have reserved seating while helping out a great cause in the Food Bank of the Southern Tier in light of hunger awareness week and the needs that exist in the region. I want to thank all those who came out for the concert, and your support and patronage of Tioga Downs Casino.”

“We greatly appreciate and care about our communities and want to show our commitment and loyalty,” commented Gural, chairman of American Racing and Entertainment.

Chubby Checker’s popular 1959 song The Twist was just the start of one hit song after another. The Twist topped charts on two separate occasions in 1961 and 1962. For the next three decades, Checker turned out hits, toured the country and entertained audiences. By the late 80’s, he was demonstrating his musical talents by recording with artists outside the rock and roll genre. Never losing momentum, Checker continued producing new hits throughout the decades.

Chubby Checker issued a statement of regret for the inclement weather, calling Tioga Downs one of his favorite venues to perform within and was happy that a new date for guests and the community has been scheduled.

Four other rock and roll and county music concerts will round out the summer concert series at Tioga Downs – Sara Evans on Thursday, July 2; Hippiefest 2015 on Saturday, July 25; Lee Greenwood on Saturday, Aug. 15; and Big and Rich with Cowboy Troy on Sunday, Sept. 6. Ticket prices vary by show and can be purchased at all Ticketmaster locations and www.ticketmaster.com.

Tioga Downs offers live harness racing, video lottery terminals, video poker and electronic roulette. A variety of eateries are also part of the entertainment complex.
