Choral Society to host June 14 concert in Owego

Choral Society to host June 14 concert in OwegoOn Sunday, June 14 at 3 p.m. at the Lakeview Chapel in Owego, the Owego Choral Society will present a concert, “I Hear America Singing”.

H. Carroll Collings, a former Owego Free Academy Music teacher, established the Owego Choral Society in 1963. The group started with former students and Alumni still interested in singing. The first President was Barbara O’Donnell.

The name was changed to Owego Community Chorus in 2004, and since then many different directors have helped keep the group together. The latest co-directors are Dave Berry and Lila Hall.

The chorus will present a concert “I Hear America Singing” on Sunday, June 14, at 3 p.m. at Lakeview Chapel on Day Hollow Road in Owego, N.Y. The concert will include Patriotic, Gospel, and a trip down memory lane with show tunes over the years such as My Way, You’ll Never Walk Alone, Somewhere My Love, With a Little Bit of Luck and more.

The group will be starting in September to prepare for their Christmas concert. Rehearsals are Monday evenings, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lakeview Chapel in Owego.
