OLL News Brief

Online registration closes Sunday, March 15, for Owego Little League (OLL) Baseball, Tee Ball and Girls Softball. Paper or in person signups ended Wednesday, March 11.

Baseball draft are Monday and Tuesday, March 23 and 24. Player Agent Eric Hawkins at ehawkins1@stny.rr.com says players will receive a call from their coach sometime that week letting them know the date of their first practice.

VP Softball Dave York will coordinate the Girls Softball draft.

League officials say this year it is very important to have players attend the Indoor Clinic on Saturday, March 21 in their age group. That’s because this will be the only clinic available due to the snow on the ground.

Times for the Indoor Clinic are as follows:

Baseball players age seven to nine are 11 a.m. with sign-ins beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Owego Apalachin Middle School.

Baseball players age 10-12 are 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with sign-ins starting at 12:30 p.m., also at OAMS.

VP Baseball Chris Rieg and Player Agent Eric Hawkins stress it is important for all players to attend the Indoor Clinic to gauge what level of baseball they will be playing this year. Players must be registered for the 2015 season to attend the clinics.

Practice should start the week of March 30. This will be determined by the condition of the field after this harsh winter.

Opening Day will be Saturday, April 25 – one week earlier than past years.

OLL is successful because of people who truly want to be involved with their children’s experience in the league. Volunteers made up primarily of parents and guardians of the players run OLL. The best way to start is in the T-Ball level, but it is never too late to volunteer.

Parents are encouraged to volunteer for any position. Managers need, and will appreciate, the help of Coaches and Team Parents throughout the season. You will find that volunteering at the ball field is both fun and very satisfying.
