OLL News Brief

Owego Little League (OLL) Player Agent Eric Hawkins says Sunday, March 15, is the cut off for the online sign ups for OLL Baseball and Tee Ball, Owego Girls Softball and Teener League Baseball.

Final opportunity for in person sign up is Wednesday, March 11, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ronald E. Dougherty County Office Building at 56 Main St. in Owego. OLL VP Chris Rieg extends a big thank you to Owego Free Academy Head Baseball Coach Phil Schofield and his coaching staff and players for Saturday’s Baseball Clinic.

Rieg says the turnout was great from Owego and Apalachin Little League players. He believes everyone involved came away with a very positive experience. He looks forward to doing more in the future.

Coach Schofield says Saturday’s baseball clinic went well with 45 players from both leagues ages 10 to 14.

Both gyms were used. Players were split up by age level. Coaches did a lot of defensive drills at all positions and hitting fundamentals.

Coach Schofield says he was pleased with the excitement and turnout and hopefully the program will build off this for years to come.

VP Teener League Baseball Jim Lavo and VP Baseball Chris Rieg expect returning and new managers and coaches to attend their annual mandatory meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, in the auditorium at the county office building.

On Saturday, March 21, there will be an indoor clinic to prepare for the Player Drafts using player registration information.

Celebrating 64 years in 2014, OLL is run and operated entirely by volunteers. Parents and community members are always needed to willing invest time and energy.

Common ways to volunteer are: manage or coach a team. Be a team parent or coordinator. Fulfill team or field duties such as scorekeeper, dugout manager, or organize snacks. Help prepare before or clean up after games. Volunteer as umpire.
