Tioga Provisions – a new year-round farmer’s type market

A new year-round farmer’s type market will be opening in Owego, N.Y. The facility space is established and renovations will be completed for the market over the next few months.

The year-round market will have heating and air-conditioning. Electric outlets for the vendors, including outlets for refrigerators/freezers will be available. Farm vendors will have individual booths. A central cashier will be on duty during market hours.

Initially, the market will be open Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The open architecture with lots of windows and lights creates a well-lit shopping experience. New, spacious restrooms have been completed.

Tioga Provisions will be located on the second floor of the Tioga Trails Café building at Lake and Main Streets in Owego, N.Y.

With the Tioga Trails Café below the market on the ground floor, and with the Owego Beer Garden on the roof of the building, the location in the middle of Historic Owego, and with Early Owego Antiques Center across the street, an exciting and popular shopping experience is anticipated for Tioga Provisions.

The owners, April and George Swaney are currently soliciting vendors for about 30 specific categories of regionally farm-produced products including organic cheeses and meats, craft pickle products, artisanal breads, summer and winter vegetables, and many more products.  The market will also include offerings from regional microbreweries and cideries.

Potential products will be reviewed for quality before being selected. The number of vendors in each category will be limited.

For a complete list of targeted products and vendor applications, and any questions, contact April or George Swaney at the Tioga Trails Café, or call them at the café – (607) 687-7195, or by e-mail to swaneyba@baka.com.

In addition, agricultural related educational seminars will be held on a weekly basis.
