Who is really dragging their heels?

Dear Editor,

While it was difficult for me to understand most of the points that Mr. Hartman was attempting to make in his Letter to the Editor, I would like to address the two that I was able to clearly understand.

Mr. Hartman says that he and other trustees have not been dragging their heels on hiring police officers. There are currently four full time vacancies, yet four trustees, including Mr. Hartman, have voted against hiring to fill those positions every time that it has been voted on.

Mr. Hartman also states that I blocked him from getting the data out to the public that he has garnered regarding the Owego Police Department (OPD). On Dec. 1 he said he wanted to have a public information session on Dec. 8 to get that data out to the public.

I pointed out that one week’s notice for an important meeting was not enough notice, especially in December when unplanned meetings are poorly attended.

I leave it to the reader to decide if that is blocking. Mr. Hartman, as shown by his letter, is an avid communicator and I am confident that he will be able to get the data that he has garnered on OPD out to the public.

Sincerely,

Owego Mayor Kevin Millar
