OA Foundation to hold annual fundraiser

The OA Foundation for Excellence in Education’s annual Wine and Beer Tasting event is coming up on Jan. 16, at the Owego Treadway Inn from 6 to 9 p.m.

Hosted by the Owego Apalachin Foundation for Excellence in Education, this annual event is the primary fundraising initiative. Tom Westcott and Ultra Vibe will provide lively entertainment and local restaurants will provide scrumptious refreshments.

Nearby wineries, breweries, and cheese houses will showcase their products with samples. Local businesses and residents generously provide a wide variety of goods and services for the silent auction that always generates excitement as the winning bids are announced.

The Foundation is a nonprofit community organization that provides grants for innovative programs benefiting children in our area as well as scholarships to four OFA seniors who will pursue a career in a youth-oriented field.

This year, along with giving their own grants and scholarships, the Foundation was able to help Dollars for Scholars, in their last year of giving, administer 17 additional scholarships to local students.

Including this year’s grant and scholarship awards, The Foundation has now given just over $138,000 back to the Owego and Apalachin communities. All of this is possible with the support and generosity of the community members and businesses.

Organizers are hoping to make this year’s event the biggest yet, with proceeds going right back into the community in the form of grants and scholarships. They would love to fill the loss of Dollars for Scholars by funding even more scholarships in the years to come.

Tickets are available now at Lawler’s Liquor Store, The Wine Connection, and from any Foundation board member. They make a great Christmas presents.

Pre-sale ticket prices are $40 per couple, $25 for single tickets, and $10 for designated drivers.

At-the-door ticket prices are $45 per couple, and $35 for single tickets.
