It could be the difference between life or death – reflective house numbers

Proper visual house numbers could impact your life. Imagine this; it’s 9 p.m. and you are sitting watching TV, all of a sudden your spouse turns pale and begins to sweat. He says his chest hurts, he’s having difficulty breathing, and he says the pain is going down his arms.

You call 911. An ambulance is dispatched to your house and is en-route within 6 minutes. The time ticks by. Your husband is getting worse. You say to yourself, “where is that ambulance? I’m only 10 minutes from the garage.”

As you are saying that, the ambulance crew is desperately searching for the street number for your house. The ambulance crew finally sees an address number on a mailbox. It’s 100 higher than yours. They turn around. They see a house with a porch light on, they stop, it’s not your house. Fortunately the residents directed them to the correct address.

As the crew pulls into your driveway and are entering your home, they find house numbers. They’re on the door jamb of your front door. They shake their heads in disbelief.

What you need to do tonight is to get in your car, go to the road in front of your house, and see if you can identify your house numbers. Are they on the mailbox, if so, can you see them easily from the road? Numbers on a house aren’t easily seen from a road. Small numbers on a mailbox aren’t easily seen and numbers only on one side of a mailbox aren’t easily seen. In life-threatening situations, every minute is critical. Your house numbers need to be visual from the road, in daylight and in the dark.

The Candor Emergency Squad is selling reflective house number signs. The signs are $10.00 for numbers on one side and $12.00 for numbers on both sides of the sign. Visit them on Nov. 9 at their Open House from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to get yours.

You can also call 659-5529 to order a sign. Every minute counts to get to your home or a loved one’s home in the event of an emergency. These would make great Christmas gifts for a loved one, let them know you care.
