The Owego Fire Department, in conjunction with the Owego Hose Teams and Farmhouse Brewery are hosting a beer tasting to benefit the Owego Fire Training Facility. Farmhouse Brewery, Ithaca Beer Company, Cortland Beer Company and North Brewery have signed on offering beer samplings. The event will be held at the new training facility at 191 McMaster St., Owego on Oct. 18 from 5 to 9 p.m. Families are invited to visit the facility from noon to 3 p.m. for burgers and hotdogs, fire truck display and a children’s bounce house.

Tina and Sean Dolan will play an acoustic set followed by the Spelunkers. An additional band may be added to the bill. Food will also be provided. Cost is a $20 donation. Attendees will receive an authentic Owego Hose Team pint glass.

Tickets are available at the following locations: Farmhouse Brewery Taphouse on the Flats, Thompson’s Grocery, the Community Shop, Weaver Automotive, The Goat Boy, Early Owego Antique Center, and Gavin and Gavin on East Main Street. Tickets are also available online at www.owegofire.org/tappingtower.html.

Work is progressing on the training facility classroom building, Phase I of the project, and should be near completion in mid-October. The project sat idle for a year after the passing of Chief Ed Franz, however new leadership in the department has again made completing the training facility a priority.

Drop by on Oct. 18 to see the progress, hear some good music, and enjoy a pint or two from our local breweries!
