The Summer Savoyards is a nonprofit community group that performs a Gilbert and Sullivan comedy operetta each summer in Binghamton, N.Y. Established in 1961, the Summer Savoyards is a fun company for new and experienced actors and singers to study and improve on their operatic skills and provide the community with a fantastic show, including lively choreography and a chamber orchestra. The Summer Savoyards also teach carpentry and art to all those willing to help the talented technical crew build their outstanding props and sets.
This year the Summer Savoyards branches out into a new venue – Murder Mystery Dinner Theater! The proceeds from these fund raising events support the opera company, helping pay for student scholarships, set building equipment and materials, rehearsal and performance space rentals, and much more. The mysteries are written, directed, and performed by members of the operetta company.
The next performance, Death of a Diva, will take place on Oct 4., beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour at Tioga Trails Café in Owego, N.Y.
Come find out what happens when a local opera company gathers prestigious members from the Southern Tier society to announce the newest star of their new Opera, L’omicidio di un Soprano. There might be jealousy, secrets, and murder!
Tickets can be purchased from Tioga Trails Cafe in person. They are located at the corner of Lake and Main Street in Owego.
