Temperatures soared on Monday while fair organizers, board members, 4-H participants and volunteers scrambled to get everything in place for this year’s fair, taking place through Aug. 11 at the Tioga County Fairgrounds in Owego, N.Y.
Admission to the fair was free on Monday to open the grounds up to the public, and to showcase the annual Sire Stakes that kicked off at noon. This annual harness racing event is sponsored by The Early Owego Antique Center and Equine Supply Trading Co. of Nichols, N.Y. Tioga Downs offers their expertise each year, to ready the track for this favorite pastime event.
And as volunteers readied for this year’s fair, they were also anticipating a good turn out.
With a host of activities planned throughout the week to include, but not limited to three nights of demo derby action, live music at the Show Stage each night, new and improved carnival rides and Midway, and a low, pay one price admission of $10 to gain access to the fair, the rides, the grandstands and all of the shows, the organizers are deeming it the best deal around.
