Daffodil Daze celebrates 10th anniversary

Daffodil Daze celebrates 10th anniversaryApril 27-29 and May 4-6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will mark the 10th year the family of Joy and Steve Zamoiski will open their daffodil fields, located at 292 Candor Hill Rd., to the public.

In 2009 they celebrated Joy’s 85th birthday with the public and unveiled Joy, written out in 1,000 daffodils in the hill behind their house. Guests and family enjoyed themselves so much that they have held the event the last weekend in April and first weekend in May ever since.

The event is free, children are welcome and an accessible port a potty is on site.

Joy started the daffodil plantings over 40 years ago. Through the decades her children have purchased and planted nearly 40,000 daffodil bulbs and estimate they have over 54,000 daffodils on site. This includes over 170 varieties and at least 20 distinct mixes.

They have spelled out four additional words in daffodils, the latest will be revealed this year. They have also planted a 50-foot tall breast cancer ribbon using 1,700 “Pink Ribbon” daffodil bulbs, to show solidarity with anyone fighting a major health battle.

Sunday, May 6 at 5 p.m. will kick off the second annual “Operation Extend The Joy.” With the help of volunteers, daffodils are picked and distributed to hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, elderly housing, and to shut-ins. This will continue May 7 and May 8 from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
