Mark your calendar today for the 2nd Annual Berkshire SAPpening on Saturday, March 24. The events of the day start off with a Pancake Breakfast, sponsored by the auxiliary, at the Berkshire Fire Station from 8 to 11 a.m.
If you want a little family fun and fitness, sign up for the non-competitive SAP Run/Walk (easy one mile on Jewett Hill) sponsored by the Newark Valley Chamber of Commerce. The SAP Run/Walk starts at 9 a.m. You can pick up a registration form at the Berkshire Free Library or register online at www.newarkvalleychamber.com. For group registrations, call (607) 237-9477.
Check-in and race day registration is 8 a.m. in the Berkshire Community Hall. Register by March 10 to guarantee a t-shirt.
You can also wander through the Craft and Vendor Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Berkshire Community Hall. Enjoy making Family Crafts at the Berkshire Free Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The fire station, community hall and library are located at the corner of Route 38 and Jewett Hill Road.
Complete the day with a free tour (and samples) of fresh made maple syrup and other maple products at Sweetrees Maple Products from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the sugarhouse on 761 Glen Rd. in Berkshire – only four miles from the Firehouse. Make sure to dress for the weather if you want to tour the sugarbush in the woods.
If you are unable to participate in the Berkshire SAPpening events, you can still enjoy a pancake breakfast with Sweetrees maple syrup at the Speedsville Fire Station on March 17 or 18, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Sweetrees sugarhouse tours will also be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 17 and 18 as well as March 24 and 25.
