Woman attempts to jump off the Court Street Bridge, officers respond

On Sept. 21, at approximately 11:13 a.m., an Owego Police Officer was dispatched to the Court Street Bridge for a distraught female that had jumped out of a moving vehicle and was attempting to jump off the Court Street Bridge.

Officer Woodburn of the Owego Police Department arrived on scene and observed the female three quarters of the way over the railing, attempting to jump onto State Route 17, below.

According to a release received from the Owego Police Department, Officer Woodburn acted quickly and without regards for his own well being was able to pull the women to safety while she was fighting to jump.

The women received minor injuries during the altercation when her leg became lodged between the rails.

The Owego Ambulance squad responded to the scene to treat the women for her injuries. The female was then transported to the Binghamton General Hospital for further treatment (name withheld due to HIPAA Laws).
