The Danby Fun Day committee recently announced the date for the year’s premier community event, Danby Fun Day. The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the grounds of the Danby Volunteer Fire Company in downtown Danby.
Fun Day has been the centerpiece of the summer season for several decades. Over the years, it has featured a parade, two music venues (acoustic and amplified) showcasing local musicians, games for kids, a chicken BBQ and other culinary treats prepared by the fire volunteers, craft vendors, educational safety demonstrations created by first responders, a used book sale, archery instruction, a huge Chinese Auction, local history displays, and the opportunity for Danby’s residents and others to meet and get to know each other.
The event is also one of the major fundraisers and volunteer recruitment moments for Danby’s Fire Department. Visitors can tour the fire station, see the fire trucks, and talk to the volunteers.
The event committee is still looking for additional volunteers to help, both before and during Fun Day. Call (607) 272-8114 and leave a message if you would like to volunteer.
The Danby Volunteer Fire Company is located at 1780 Danby Rd., also known as Route 96B. For more information, call (607) 273-8678 or email to fundayinfo@danbyny.org.
