Readers’ Column for the week of April 2, 2017

I see we have the same old for trustees in the Village of Owego. It would be very nice if just one of them knew how to close a deal and put it to bed. I think we have been about six years trying to come with a just and equitable way to charge village property owners for their proportionate use of their wastewater. They have accomplished absolutely zilch on this problem and there is no system in sight. It seems that they should be ashamed that they have not come up with a solution after all these years. One reason that it is only getting lip service is gross incompetence.

Huge shout out to Andy, Sue, Janel, Frank, and Dawn for helping us move into our house last week, on a less than ideal day for unloading a truck. Thanks everyone!

I would like to thank the person who called in last week regarding the two cows on Fairfield Road and had called the SPCA. I called Stray Haven two days in a row about these poor animals back in December after the first heavy snowfall. They were attempting to eat the scrub brush around the telephone pole in the so-called pasture. They had no food, no water, and no shelter. It was a Tuesday and Wednesday. Stray Haven informed me that they could not get up there until the following Monday at the earliest and if it was an emergency to call the Sheriff’s office. So I did. A deputy responded, came to my house, and I assume went to pay a visit to these people. The steer will probably never get much bigger than it is. Its’ growth has been stunted due to lack of proper nourishment. I have NO idea what these people think they are doing. The older cow is way too old to be butchered for meat. I encourage anyone else to call the SPCA, the Humane Society, or the Sheriff’s office to see if something can be done to help these poor creatures.

Coming from town on Main Street the railroad track is unbelievable! Your car crashes and rocks back and forth like being on a roller coaster. Oh my, there goes my shocks; my many body parts to my neck, ribs, etc. Please help!

~

Where are the bump signs in Campville for the uneven road? People who don’t know the area will ruin their car crossing the bridge!

~

As a lifelong citizen of Tioga County I have been very impressed by it. There is snow removal, there is emergency removal, and there is everything. I am disgusted with their judicial system. It is probably as crooked as they come!

I’m calling to let people know that tinted window law, they are enforcing it. If you have tinted windows that someone put it on by themselves or you bought it that way and it’s not factory window, you might want to take it somewhere to get it tested because they are issuing tickets. I just thought I’d let everybody know.

In last week’s column someone wrote in and said they were having trouble with their email service through Time Warner and wanted to know if there was anyone else. Yes, I’ve had a lot of problems with it. I’ve lost a lot of contacts since they’ve made the switchover. It’s been terrible! I don’t know if it’s going to get any better or not but I would hope so, especially with the amount of money we’re paying.

~

There are good people out there! They help out people when needed. At Price Chopper on Thursday night at approximately quarter to eight, I need assistance and a nice lady paid for the rest of my groceries. I just want to let people that there are good people out there and I want to thank her very, very much for helping me out.

~

On Friday, March 24, I went to Price Chopper and I wanted to buy a couple of items with my green dot debit card. I kept punching in my pin number and kept finding my pin wouldn’t work. I started to get angry and frustrated when a woman behind me in line helped me out by using her card to pay for my groceries. Thank you very much for helping me. That really made my day!

Today I read in the paper 46 dogs saved from slaughter coming in from South Korea. Is something wrong with this picture? We can’t take care of own, how in God’s name do we take care of someone else’s? Think of the money! The flight, the care, the food and the upkeep. Where does this all come from when we can’t take care of our own? Does anyone really have a full brain?

~

Today is March 27 and this is to all of the pistol permit recertification individuals who mailed in their form rather than recertifying online. I’ve been checking to see what my status is and I spoke to a representative from the New York State Police and he told me it could take as long as six months to a year for them to even have processed the ones that they have received so far. Just so you know if you’ve been trying to check on your recertification from when you mailed it in, it may take a long, long time before they can even confirm that they received it. They are incredibly backed up and that whole thing is falling down, the whole program is in a mess. We will see how it keeps playing out.

National Political Viewpoints

How long before the public gets tired of the Progressive nonsense in Washington, D.C., stopping every improvement President Trump initiates. This ought to come back and bite them, next election cycle! Childish, immature behavior! How about a joint effort to supply a solution to the healthcare mix mash negative piece of garbage! How about more about the people and their needs, instead of playing politics and acting like spoiled brats?

~

I guess that we have to thank the damn Democrats for saving New York State a few billion that we would have lost except for the fact that the Democrats and a few sensible Republicans scuttled the “Republicans do not care” medical adjustment bill. I am sure that those who will still have medical coverage will breathe a sigh of relief.

~

Those few random phrases, from the Koran, resulted in the slaughter of a few thousand random people on 9/11!

~

It never ceases to amaze me how the Republicans admitted for eight years they would stop anything Obama wanted to do for the people even break the law not letting Obama pick a Supreme Court judge! Isn’t it funny it seems Democrats are being persecuted for the downfall of the new health bill and it was the Republicans that blocked it! Thank heavens the Democrats care about the people!

~

Here we go again, our two local elected representatives, Tom Reed and Claudia Tenney, voted to change the Medicaid rules again. Why is it they support everything the Republicans do to hurt the common working people and yet you people keep electing them again and again. It’s time for them to go! It’s time to vote someone else in. At this point I’d like to see anybody! Reed and Tenney votes need to go.

~

Now that we’ve gotten rid of the Obama’s lets get rid of the lousy lunches the kids won’t eat. Kids need energy to get through the day. They aren’t getting it because they don’t like the food, end of story.

~

Trump Republican politics. How do you spell loser? Trumpcare wanted to leave 24 million Americans at risk, some of who were obviously going to die. Seventeen percent of Americans approved of Trumpcare before it went down in flames before the Republican vindictive congress. Those guys are out to destroy Social Security, Medicare and Meals on Wheels. They want you groveling for breadcrumbs before they’re finished. What counts to the Republican Trump team? The billionaires and millionaires. The middle class is finished with Republicans, admit it.

~

The Republicans have the House, the Senate and the Presidency, and they still could not appeal and replace Obamacare. What a bunch! They like the prestige of strutting around with their expensive suits and can’t wait to talk to reporters and be interviewed. Politicians think they are something great.

~

The Affordable Care Act needs to be amended. Medicare has been amended 18 times, healthcare is a constitutional right, and you cannot have Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness without a healthy life. Without Affordable Healthcare, the only losers are we the people.

~

The president says he wants to drain the swamp in Washington D.C. Well he can start with Paul Ryan first.

~

What is it about these congressional hearings where no one is ever found responsible for their illegal acts? The unmasking of U.S. Citizen names during incidental surveillance by the U.S. Security Agency is a felony and carries a mandatory 10-year jail sentence. This has happened illegally at least twice during the past six months to President Trump or the Trump team. There are only about 100 people who can unmask citizens caught in incidental surveillance. All Americans should demand that these felons should be indentified and be put in jail.
