Following the governor’s state of emergency announcement last evening, many in the area braced for heavy snowfall across the Northeast region. According to the National Weather Service at Binghamton, close to 12 inches covered the area by 7:55 a.m. Tuesday and was continuing to fall.

On Tuesday, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo also announced a temporary tractor-trailer ban on interstates on I-81, I-84, I-86/Route 17, I-88 and all of the New York State Thruway. The Governor also announced a full travel ban for all of Broome County beginning at 9 a.m.

For most areas, snow continues at a rate of 4-inches per hour in some areas, and will be further complicated by gusty winds that will take over the region by Wednesday, although most of the snowfall will have diminished by that time.

As for closures in the area, schools are closed, and Lockheed Martin in Owego has cancelled its daytime operations for today.

Patients and staff should not travel to these locations. All Guthrie hospitals in Sayre, Corning, Towanda and Troy will remain open and clinical care staff should report for work as usual.

At Lourdes, the following are closed: Lourdes Primary Care offices, Lourdes Walk-Ins, Lourdes Physical Therapy offices, Lourdes Center for Mental Health, Lourdes Occupational Health, Broome Urology at Lourdes, Lourdes at Home, Lourdes Hospice, Lourdes Nutrition Services are cancelled, and the Lourdes Hope Dispensary is closed.

UHS offices are also closed for today, except for the walk in services.

All of the Tioga County offices are closed, and Tioga Downs in Nichols, N.Y. is also closed.

We will keep our readers updated throughout the day as the storm continues.
