A special dog reunion is planned on Saturday, June 18, at Hickories Park Pavilion 2, located at 359 Hickories Park Rd. in Owego, N.Y. Mastiff dog owners from the New England area, New Jersey, and the Southern Tier will get together for the annual “Molly Fest,” where over 20 mastiff dogs will reunite, and catch up on family news.
Judee Burrell, from Owego, N.Y., welcomes visitors to Hickories Park after 3 p.m. to meet the breed.
“This is an opportunity for anyone interested in getting a mastiff to meet the breed,” Burrell shared. Burrell also spoke of the long-term commitment owners must realize before making the decision to get a mastiff, so Burrell and other owners welcome visitor questions.
Burrell said that mastiffs are really “gentle giants.”
The Mastiff Club of America (MCOA) website, mcoamastiff.com, states, “Breeders today have bred the mastiff for gentleness and have created an excellent companion large enough to deter intruders, yet gentle enough to be dependable around children.” According to MCOA, female mastiffs generally weigh between 120-170 pounds, while males weigh in the range of 160-230 pounds.
