Springtime brings flowering beauty, open doors, new artistic work and hand crafted gifts made by the finest artists in our area. The Black Cat Gallery welcomes several new artists, all who work with wood in some way.
Ron Brown creates beautiful and functional vases and lamps using repurposed fence posts. Doug Worden, woodworker, crafts practical bookcases. Tony DeGregorio, a new artist and logger, draws views from his occupation in local woods and Matt Karp, forester, crafts beautiful tables and boxes with unusual burls.
During the 1st Friday Art Walk, on June 3 from 6 to 8:30 p.m., the Black Cat Gallery is featuring the music of Trish and Dannielle, playing fiddle, banjo and guitar. The duo has been playing together for many years, blending traditional tunes, modern folk, sing-alongs and old favorites.
Every year, the Black Cat Gallery bestows the “Art Spirit Award”, presented to graduating High School seniors who show a love for creating art and demonstrate a true art spirit. This year five local schools will have the opportunity to present the “Art Spirit Award”. Participating schools include the Owego Free Academy, Newark Valley, Candor, Spencer Van Etten and Tioga Central School. Funds for this award are generated from artist contributions, donations, and from the “Second Saturday Craft Class”.
