Tire and scrap metal cleanup to take place in Barton

On Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days, a tire and scrap metal cleanup for Town of Barton residential households will take place, to include residents of the Village of Waverly.

The drop off will be at the Town of Barton highway gravel pit located on Ellistown Road in Waverly.

The cleanup is being held to minimize potential areas for mosquitoes to reproduce and reduce health-related problems transmitted through insects and vermin and to assist in beautifying the Town of Barton.

Up to eight tires per residential household will be accepted at no charge (up to 19-inches); up to an additional eight tires will be accepted for a fee of $1 per tire.

Tires on rims will be taken at no charge and will not be included in the eight tire limit. Any tires over 19-inches will count as two tires (up to four tires). Additional tires may be dropped off at $2 per tire (up to four tires).

Larger tires will require residents to help load tires. Clean scrap metal will also be accepted at no charge. Proof of Town of Barton residency is required.

The cleanup is being hosted by the Tioga County Department of Solid Waste, and is funded by Upstate Shredding-Ben Weitsman.
