Tioga County Contradance will hold a Harvest Dance on Sunday, Oct. 19, from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, located at 117 Main St. in Owego, top floor.
Highly skilled caller Casey Carr will teach each dance before it begins and call during the dance. The dances will be primarily contra, mixed with some square and circle dances and a few waltzes.
Guest caller Hilton Baxter will call an English country dance to complete the celebration. Experienced dancers help new ones feel comfortable. All levels are welcome, including beginners, and no partner is necessary. The dance is appropriate for adults, teens, and those in elementary school.
Two renowned dance bands will play live acoustic music.
Stove Dragon, a high-energy band accustomed to playing large halls in New York and Philadelphia, will play the first two sets. Instrumentation includes keyboard, guitar, and twin fiddle.
Fiddler Oliver Scanlon and keyboard player Alex Fortier will play the last set. With professional musicians coming in from Syracuse, Rochester, and New England, expect a lively sound perfect for getting your feet moving.
Admission is by donation at the door. Please bring a water bottle and wear clean, soft-soled shoes and comfortable clothing.
This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and administered by The ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes.
