The fifth annual Halloween Fest will take place on Oct. 24 from 5-8 p.m. in downtown Owego, with activities centered on Lake Street. The event, hosted by the Historic Owego Marketplace, is free for the community to attend.
“It’s a really fun night for the kids and even the adults; they all dress up, and we have a parade, and vendors,” said Pat Hansen, president of the Historic Owego Marketplace and one of the organizers of the event.
She said that this year’s main organizer, Janelle Malia, has some new additions in store for Halloween Fest fans. Hansen and Malia dress up in costumes for the event while ensuring that the parade runs smoothly.
As the parade goes down Lake Street, Hansen said Malia’s judges will be watching for the best and most creative costumes, and prizes will be awarded.
There will be a costume parade and contest, trick or treating, and even activities for adults to enjoy, too.
“After the event is over, they have a cocktail crawl for the adults that goes through the different bars, and they feature different cocktails, and they have a competition,” Hansen said, adding, “We just try to bring people here and to enjoy all that Owego has to offer.”
