Following the pandemic, and as a gesture of gratitude toward our first responders and those who ensure the safety of the community, Village Appreciation Night was launched at the Tioga County Fairgrounds. This year’s event, which has received generous support from the community, will take place on Friday, Oct. 17, and will run from 5:30-9:30 p.m. at the Tioga County Fairgrounds, located across from the Price Chopper Plaza on West Main Street in Owego.
Hosted by the Owego Police Department and its Benevolent Association, this free event is made possible thanks to generous support and donations from businesses within the Village of Owego and beyond.
With law enforcement represented, as well as nonprofit organizations, the event was elevated last year when it brought in a hot air balloon, which will be returning this year in addition to the bonfire, live music, wagon rides, prize tent, face painting, and free food.
Performing on stage for the event will be Allie Torto, followed by Two Dollar Pistol. Music will kick off with musicians from the Owego Nazarene Church, and with Allie’s performance beginning at 6:15 p.m. You can catch Two Dollar Pistol beginning at 7:30, and leading into the fireworks that will conclude the event.
Allie Torto, a native of Broome County, will bring to the evening her impressive style of original music, accompanied by musical artist and guitarist Bradford Allen. (You can read that story here!)
Two Dollar Pistol, one of the most electrifying country rock cover bands in the region, will take the stage for the event in a show they describe as “five musicians bringing the party to life with hits you know and love.”

Two Dollar Pistol will perform for this year’s Village Appreciation Night, set for Oct. 17, from 5:30-9:30 p.m. at the Tioga County Fairgrounds in Owego. Pictured are members Corey, Tom, Brad, Nick, and Cary.
The band is no stranger to Owego, having drawn a crowd at the annual Strawberry Festival in 2023. Band members Corey, Tom, Brad, Nick, and Cary have performed locally and regionally together as a group for over ten years.
The band is looking forward to returning to Owego and performing for guests on Oct. 17.
The event will feature one, possibly two hot air balloons this year for tethered rides; a bonfire to keep the heat up, prizes and games for children, and information from agencies that serve the community available throughout the event. You will also find a fleet of trucks owned by local businesses, creating a touch-a-truck sideline for the event.
But it doesn’t end there; there will be free food for guests, served up by local officials, and the VFW will be giving away several bicycles at the event. There are a few other surprises in store as the community continues to step in to be included in this philanthropic and community-building event.
Sponsors and supporters of this year’s event include, but are not limited to, the Floyd Hooker Foundation, Cops4 A Cause, Owego’s Police Benevolent Association and the Owego Police Department, the Owego Nazarene Church, Visions Federal Credit Union, the Owego Fire Department, Tioga State Bank, Allstate Agency Owego, Estey Munroe and Fahey Funeral Home, Price Chopper, Casella Waste Systems, Southern Tier Hardwoods, Wagner Lumber, Stoughton Farm, VFW 1371, CHOW of Binghamton, Scott, Smith and Son, Renewal Ranch, and Hunt Out Hunger.
There will be various nonprofits on hand at the event, offering information about their services, and the Fire Department and EMS personnel will have displays set up for attendees.
