Memorial Day is a day set aside to honor the courage and ultimate sacrifice that our brave men and women made in service to our country.
Each year, the Owego VFW honors a fallen soldier; this year, they chose Captain Timothy M. Neild, a veteran of 18 and a half years of military service, Afghanistan war service, Bronze Star recipient, loving husband, father, brother, and son, who completed suicide after suffering a traumatic brain injury.

According to his father, Rick Neild, “Tim was a member of the Honor Guard, and now they honor him.”
Rick added, “The playing of Taps always brings tears.”
Timothy Neild is buried at Maple Grove Cemetery in Candor. A motorcycle-ride organized by “Team Timmy” will be stopping at his gravesite on June 7, as they embark on a 125-mile police-escorted ride, with stops in Whitney Point, Hickories Park, and then its conclusion at Turkey Trot Acres in Candor.
