Energy Choices Owego is led by the Village of Owego’s Climate Smart Communities Task Force, and in collaboration with NeST. This campaign is focused on bringing residents lower energy bills and improving the comfort of your home.
Through Energy Choices Owego, residents can receive free advising on the financial resources to make energy efficiency and home comfort projects more accessible.
Residents can receive a free home energy assessment through NYSERDA, which can reveal where air is leaking from the house and thus where energy could be saved with weatherization projects, (such as updating insulation and air sealing).
Next, Energy Choices Owego aims to help people update their heating and cooling systems, specifically to heat pump technology. They will connect residents to vetted installer partners who can identify whether heat pump technology is best suited for your home. Rebates and tax credits are available to bring down the cost of these projects.
Additionally, residents have an opportunity to further reduce their NYSEG electricity bills by enrolling in community solar. The Village of Owego has partnered with Nexamp, a national clean energy company that works with communities, businesses, and municipalities to support energy independence through community solar projects. Residents who enroll in Nexamp’s new solar array will receive a 20% discount on their NYSEG electricity supply and delivery charges.
Nexamp is currently enrolling customers for a solar project anticipated to come online this fall.
