Firehouse Subs at Owego Central Fire Station April 15-20; Mobile Food Truck benefits Steamer Project

Firehouse Subs mobile food truck will return to Owego Central Fire Station on North Avenue Monday, April 15 thru Saturday, April 20. Proceeds from sub sales support the Owego Fire Department’s (OFD) 1866 Amoskeag Steam Fire Engine restoration with “Steamer House” on North Avenue, championed by the Owego Hose Team.

The truck will operate from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily out of the Owego Fire Station #2 parking lot on North Avenue.

“We can see the light at the end of the tunnel for the Steamer project,” said Hose Team Volunteer Patrick Gavin, adding, “We appreciate Firehouse Subs’ continued support.”

Gavin estimates $30,000 in funding is needed to bring the Steam Fire Engine project that started in 2020 to closure. Hose Team fundraising continues to close that funding gap.

The 157-year-old OFD Amoskeag Steam Fire Engine, known as the “Steamer,” has not been operational since the late 1980s. In addition to restoring the Steamer, the Hose Team is finishing a “Steamer House” like the one located in Marathon, N.Y. to showcase the piece on North Avenue.

Stamped concrete sides and truck apron on site were completed this week.
