On or about Oct. 8, a small dog was seen running over at Hickories Park in Owego, and nearby the path that leads to Miller Beach Road. Through networking on Lost and Found Pets of Tioga County on Facebook, combined with a small group of volunteers and a nearby resident, the dog was finally caught.

According to the resident, who is keeping the dog during its stray hold, the dog actually came through the screen door in the middle of the night and found a place on the couch. But when the resident came out of his bedroom, the dog bolted back out the door.

The dog, the resident reported, came back later and has been there ever since.

“I want to do whatever I need to do to help this dog,” the resident stated, anonymously. “He’s such a beautiful dog, I don’t know why anyone would discard him like this.”

On the day that the dog was found, the temperatures were in the 80s, and because of the rain the dog was covered in mud and mosquitoes.

Today, and while officials work to determine what happened, the dog is enjoying a fresh grooming provided by Riveredge Kennels and Grooming in Owego and is safe and warm.

In an effort to determine how the dog ended up in the back of the park and near the woods, Stray Haven is asking anyone that has information on this dog to call them at (607) 565-2859.
