Legislative Chair Marte Sauerbrey declared a State of Emergency in Tioga County at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, due to the flash flooding being experienced around the county.
Tioga County Director of Emergency Services, Michael Simmons, and Tioga County Sheriff Gary W. Howard advise no unnecessary travel until further notice on the roads due to flooded roadways and in some cases debris and washed out areas.
Travel is not prohibited, but it is strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel so the road crews can make necessary repairs to the roads that have been affected.
Please do not drive thru standing water, as is witnessed in the photo taken at the North Avenue underpass.
Earlier tonight, not one, but two cars were engulfed by water while attempting to negotiate the flooded underpass. One of the drivers, according to fire officials and others at the scene, was clear through the water, but then was stalled when the other car drove through it. Both were stranded in the water at 11 p.m. on Tuesday.
