Candor St. Baldrick’s Shave-a-Thon taking place on April 8

Candor’s annual St. Baldrick’s Shave-a-Thon will take place this year on Sunday, April 8 at Candor Elementary School. 

The day kicks off with a 5K run/walk that provides a tour of the town along with a cardio workout. Sign-in begins at 8:30 a.m. with a race start time of 9:30 a.m. Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to participate, and you may even register at the school until 9:20 that morning. 

Registration is $15 or $25 with a shirt. There will be medal prizes for the top three winners in several age categories.

The Shave-a-Thon will run from 1 to 4 p.m. at the school and there is room for more shavees. The event allows people to shave their head in solidarity with kids who lose their hair during cancer treatment. So if you’ve been thinking of going bald for a cause, this is your opportunity. Money raised from this event goes towards childhood cancer research. 

In addition to shaving there will be a ceremony for new Knights of the Bald Table, face painting, a crazy hair contest, a balloon man, and Cornell’s mascot “Touchdown” will drop by. Throughout the afternoon a DJ will spin tunes and a bagpiper will drop by. 

There will also be food and raffles, to include a quilt, four new bikes, porch chairs, gift certificates to local stores and restaurants, and more.

This is the eighth year that Candor Emergency Squad has hosted the St. Baldrick’s event and every year the event has grown. This year they hope to raise $50,000. 

“Kids with cancer are our reason for it all,” said the organizers. “They’re the inspiration behind our event and the reason we’re helping fund childhood cancer research. We believe all kids should be able to grow up and turn their dreams into realities.”
