Paw Prints

Question: I want to bring my cat, Mickey, to my parent’s house. What is the best way to introduce him to my car?

Answer: The best thing for Mickey is to get him accustomed to being in his cat carrier. Leave the carrier out a few days before the trip with a comfy bed and some catnip or treats to get him used to it. On the day of a car trip, spray some Feliway (a kitty pheromone that can help relax him) into the carrier and toss in a few treats to help him get inside. Creating an environment that is as comfortable and fear free as possible will help Mickey with his anxiety. If this doesn’t work, you can help battle Mickey’s nausea and fear with some medications from your veterinarian.

Fact or Myth: The wetness of a dog’s nose is an accurate indicator of his health?

This is indeed an old wives tale! Changes in your pup’s nose temperature or moisture don’t indicate any health abnormalities. If you pay attention, you will note that the temperature and wetness of your dogs nose will change during the day, depending on the level of activity and environment. If the nose looks normal, the skin isn’t cracked or he isn’t pawing at it, then it can be wet, dry, warm or cold and its all normal!
