Tri-Cities Opera to offer intensive prep classes for high school students

Tri-Cities Opera has announced it will offer a three-day “intensive” instruction session designed for high school aged performers.

The summer session will run over three days, July 26 through July 28, and will take place at the Tri-Cities Opera Center, 315 Clinton St., Binghamton, N.Y.

Instructors will include Susan Ashbaker, general director of Tri-Cities Opera; Stacey Geyer, soprano; and Jordan Schreiner, tenor. Both Geyer and Schreiner are members of the Tri-Cities Opera Resident Artist Program.

The session is intended for High School students interested in preparing for their next steps into the performing world. Whether auditioning for roles in community or school productions, college entrance, or CD/DVD preparation, these preparatory sessions will address many facets of a singer’s journey.

The company recently announced its line-up for its upcoming season: Verdi’s “La Traviata” will be performed Oct. 16 at The Forum Theatre; Humperdinck’s “Hansel & Gretel” will be performed Nov. 11-20 at the Tri-Cities Opera Center. Ravel’s “L’heure Espagnole” and Schonberg’s “Brettl-Leider” (Cabaret Songs) will take place Feb. 17-26 at the Tri-Cities Opera Center.

“Hydrogen Jukebox” featuring the music of Philip Glass and the work of beat poet Allen Ginsberg will be performed April 21-30 at Tri-Cities Opera Center.
