There’s no better way to start Saturday’s Strawberry Festival than with a parade   Saturday’s festivities at the 36th annual Strawberry Festival will begin with the highly anticipated Strawberry Festival parade, which begins at 10 a.m. A popular draw for all Fest-goers and featuring parade bands, floats, community organizations, classic cars and more, the streets of downtown Owego, N.Y. will fill up quickly for one of the largest parades in the Southern Tier.

The historic village of Owego, N.Y. will be transformed into a “Strawberry Peace” village, this year’s celebratory theme. So grab your tie-dye shirts and peace signs and after the parade, visit the stores of Owego merchants, browse the abundance of merchants and craft vendors lining the festival streets, grab some delectable food found at every turn, and enjoy a host of incredible entertainment and live music, along with countless other activities that will appeal to every visitor.

Parade-goers should have a great view from any location on the parade route. Grab a spot along the parade route which marches down Main Street from Spencer Avenue to Court Street, and then left on Court Street to Front Street, and then another left on Front Street to Paige Street, with a final left on Paige Street to Main Street, where the parade ends.

The 60 to 90 minute parade will feature a world of music, including the Grenadiers Alumni Drumline, Lenoxville Community Band, Alpha Brass Band, OFA Parade Band, the Maloney Pipe Band, the Kirby Band and the Hit Men.

There’s no better way to start Saturday’s Strawberry Festival than with a parade  Boys and Girls Club, sports groups, dance and gymnastics groups, elected officials, veterans groups, Tioga County community groups, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, Miss/Mister Strawberry Pageant winners, historic re-enactors, microds and other racing vehicles, Southern Tier Antique Tractor Club, classic cars, antique cars, beautiful horses and riders, a variety of floats, and many others will march and ride during the parade.

Bringing up the rear will be a large contingent of fire trucks and emergency vehicles, manned by the greatest first responders and emergency workers anywhere. It will be a wonderful opportunity for parade-goers to salute their heroic efforts.

Parking (includes handicap shuttles) and shuttle bus service on Saturday, June 18, will be available all day at Hickories Park and Marvin Park (Tioga County Fairgrounds). Cost to ride the shuttle is $3 per car. Festival parking begins at 7:30 a.m. with shuttle by 8 a.m., and run until 6 p.m. or until lots are empty. The downtown area is closed to traffic from early morning through the conclusion of the festival.

Inspired by a wish to live in peace within our community, country and the world, the Historic Owego Marketplace (HOM) welcomes you to the 36th Annual Owego Strawberry Festival scheduled June 17 and 18, 2016. The annual festival, which brings together the community and thousands of guests from near and far, is a signature event in the village of Owego, N.Y. A concerted effort by the HOM to showcase what the village has to offer, the Strawberry Festival is your ticket to memorable summertime fun.
