SUEZ will be working on an important water main improvement project during the week of June 13. The company will be replacing three valves at the intersection of Ruth Street and Hallstead Avenue in Owego. This work will help to ensure water quality, service reliability and fire protection.
In order to complete this work, it will be necessary to turn the water off for a few hours on Tuesday, June 14 and Wednesday, June 15. This will impact about 50 customers who will be notified. The company recommends those customers fill containers with water for drinking and fill the bathtub with water for flushing or cleaning.
When service is restored, customers may temporarily have discolored water. This is the result of harmless sediment, which has been stirred up in the mains. Running the cold water faucet for several minutes should help clear the line. Customers who continue to have issues can call the SUEZ office at (607) 687-1491.
“We apologize for the inconvenience,” said Jeff VanWagenen, manager of SUEZ operations in Owego. “These important improvements will help us provide our customers with better service.”
VanWagenen noted that preparation for the valve replacement would begin on Monday, June 13. Residents should be aware that only one lane would be open to traffic during the three-day repair period. Please drive slowly in the work zone for the safety of workers, other drivers and pedestrians.
