Readers’ Column for the week of June 12, 2016

You may call the Owego Pennysaver Readers’ Column at (607) 687-2378 24-hours a day, or e-mail comments to readerscolumn@stny.rr.com. We reserve the right to revise or reject any message.

We have a collection of years of Birds and Blooms magazines. These are very colorful and would be great for elderly or shut-ins or craft projects for young children. We also have Trailer Life magazines. If you’d like any of them, please leave your number in this column and I will contact you.

I would like to thank the one who responded to the comment about those who continue to burn their trash and other items in an open unattended fire in their backyards. They gave us some great advice referring us to the proper authorities that we should contact when these open fires occur. The original comment/concern was not directed to those fires which contain just “firewood”. These backyard burnings contain other items such as household trash, garbage from their garages and so on. Those responsible for those illegal acts will not have their trash picked up – they said it “costs too much”. Again, thanks for the advice.

Now, let me get this straight; we have less than 5 percent unemployment, low interest rates, low inflation, low fuel prices, record corporate profits, and a stock market near an all-time high. Trump says the economy is a disaster. If this is what a disaster looks like I sure hope it continues.

Attention lottery commentator. Please study up on “random”.

Members of the Public can report polluters and poachers using a new toll-free hotline to DEC. The number is 1-844-332-3267. This is in response to reader question of how to report pollution of land and water.

The only member of Congress endorsed by Trump just lost her primary in North Carolina. Our Congressman, Tom Reed, was an earlier supporter of Trump. While Reed doesn’t have a primary, he does have an opponent for the fall election. We have a choice with a fine candidate, John Plumb, who will bring the changes in Congress we all want.

Does your employer require you to live in the municipality where you work? Do you think he should? Are you willing to move to keep your job? Didn’t think so. So now think about why you think it would be okay for it to be a requirement for someone else.

To the party who wrote the question in last week’s Pennysaver, “Why would anyone vote for Donald Trump?” Simple, he’s not Hilary Clinton! We do NOT need four more years of this silly Liberal Socialist nonsense! Hillary is an opportunist, a Socialist, interested in her self, witness the bribery accepted by the Clinton Crime Family Foundation, where 94 percent of the monies “donated” goes to the Clinton family, NOT to those supposedly in need of help. Hillary is a crook, has been for years, and needs to be in JAIL, not the White House! She’s collected $21 million from speeches to Wall Street over the past two years, yet will not turn over the transcripts from those speeches. She’s supposedly for the “little guy”, and then what does she say in a 20 minute speech that is worth that kind of money from the Fat Cats?

I would like to thank the honest person who turned in my credit card I dropped at the Kwik Fill on Monday. May God bless you.

Relax folks. Donald Trump will not be your next president. He won’t even be nominated. He spends way to much time suing and being sued. The Republican strategists are using him to mouth conservative propaganda and stir the rebel blood of young borders. Ryan or some other conservative will be nominated and go up against Bernie or Hillary. Really not much choice but Hillary is by far more qualified.

Today’s headline, President Trump says he will turn the GOP congressional agenda into laws. That means cuts in Social Security, it means fewer food stamps available, it means no health insurance for millions who currently are insured. Why bother electing such a fool?

~

Paul Ryan endorsing Trump as president means if Trump becomes president Paul Ryan can take the money he saves from Social Security cuts, Medicare vouchering, food stamp cuts, give those monies in tax breaks to the rich which is the Republican way of life. Forget the middle class and people who are deserving here in the United States.

This is a note to Trump supporters, is the word unfit too many syllables to understand?

The best-kept secret in Tioga County High School sports is the Waverly girls golf team, undefeated, 6 in 4 winners, the first time anybody other than Horseheads won. Sending five golfers to states. Good luck Waverly!

I’m with you, Trump’s words to the Veterans on Memorial Day in D.C. Where was Trump during the Vietnam War? I can’t believe Veterans are for him. Yes, I’m a Vet from the Army, four years.

Does the letter R in Republican stand for rapist now? Ask Donald Trump.

Some people will vote for Hillary just because she is a woman. If you want a woman president I am sure you could do better than her. I know I could.

If you find a snapping turtle in the road and you want to help, don’t pick it up by the tail. You can inflict major internal damage. Instead, pick them up by the rear of the shell.

This is for the narrow-minded people getting rid of their police department. It’s probably the same people who were so narrow minded and got rid of the bus service because they didn’t use it and they didn’t need it, so maybe they don’t need the police department anymore. It’s amazing to me if you don’t use the service how easily the legislation, town board, etc., can get rid of it.

I was wondering why the phone books can’t be combined and have everybody in one phone book rather than having three or four phone books.

The scandal problems we have seen with VA medical care can be cured in two easy steps. One, dissolve special VA hospitals and transfer Vets medical care to existing hospitals. Let the Vets use existing hospitals just as long as patients do. Two, pay Vet medical bills with a special new branch of Medicare perhaps called Vet Medicare. Of course staff of these expanded medical facilities will use some of the facilities and personnel from the VA hospitals that exist now but overall will have to be increased to handle the workload. However, there is no need to change the technology or proficiency of the medical procedures because your medical care is already among the highest in the world. What will happen is the consolidation of these medical treatments will eliminate the duplication of wasteful case management between the VA hospitals and the private hospitals. All that will be eliminated. This is the end of the problem. Problem solved!

I find it strange the local village paper on the front page has two separate articles. One that the village board has abolished two police patrol positions and the other one from the DA explaining how much more crime there is in Owego than when he first took office.
