The Apalachin Firemen’s Field Days are scheduled Wednesday, June 1 through Saturday, June 4.
A community favorite for decades, the event features rides, games, refreshments and a chicken barbeque each day.
Special price rides will be available from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1. Also on June 1, two bicycles will be given away at 9 p.m., one boy’s bike and one girl’s bike.
On Thursday, June 2, more fun is in store on the midway with rides and food favorites. A crowd pleaser, the always spectacular fireworks show is scheduled to start at 10 p.m. sharp on Friday, June 3.
On Saturday, June 4, the Little Miss Apalachin contest starts at Noon in the food tent on the field day grounds.
Later that same day, several organizations, musicians, fire departments, youth groups and others will line-up to participate in the Apalachin Field Days parade, which starts at 6 p.m.
The Little Miss Apalachin contest has been a community favorite since 1971. From 1960 until 1970, teenage girl contestants participated for the title of Miss Apalachin.
Only pre-registered eight and nine year old females residing within the Apalachin fire district are eligible to participate in the Little Miss Apalachin contest. The contest duration is approximately one hour. Contestants may wear attire of choice and will participate in a casual conversation with a Master of Ceremonies while standing on an elevated stage platform. Three judges will tally scores and judging criteria includes appearance, personality and communication skills.
Prizes will be awarded. The winner receives a tiara, sash, floral bouquet, trophy and $200. The runner-up receives a floral bouquet, trophy and $100. All other participates will receive a flower.
